POLICE are seeking evidence and witnesses after an unsavoury New Year's Eve incident at a popular club in Corringham.

A confrontation occurred inside and outside the Corringham Social Club on Lampits Hill in the early hours of New Year's Day after a night of celebration at the club which was attended by many families, including children.

Witnesses have reported that a child, aged about six, came out of the club where other members of her family were waiting, saying her father had been assaulted inside.

What apparently followed was a brutal clash of adults inside the club, which eventually spilled outside.

Other people were reportedly assaulted by the protagonists, including at least two teenage children – one of whom has special needs.

Police then attended in some numbers after 999 calls were made.

In total, local people have told Nub News, 11 people were assaulted at some point during the incident – though Essex Police have issued a statement saying just four people were injured – none of them seriously.

It has taken Essex Police several days to investigate the incident, which has included a visit to the club to view CCTV, before making the following statement and appeal.

A spokesperson said: "We were called to reports of a large disturbance outside an address in Lampits Hill, Corringham, shortly before 1.30am on Monday, 1 January.

"Officers were on the scene within ten minutes and conducted enquiries, including speaking to witnesses.

"It was established four people had been assaulted. None suffered injuries which are life-changing or life-threatening.

"Our investigation into this matter is ongoing and we would urge anyone with information, or footage, which could assist our enquiries to come forward.

"Please quote incident number 152 of 1 January.
