POLICE have asked anyone who witnessed yesterday's incident in Grays when a young girl was hit by a moped rider - who later fled the scene - to get in touch with them.

Yesterday (Tuesday, 8 December) Thurrock Nub News posted footage supplied to us of the immediate aftermath of the incident. That film has been sent to the police but they would like to hear from anyone else who saw it or took pictures or video.

A statement from police says: "We are investigating following a collision in Grays involving a girl and moped.

"It was reported the collision took place at around 2.40pm on Tuesday, 8 December in Grangewood Avenue.

"It was reported the moped involved was travelling with two other mopeds and following the incident the driver got on one of them and left the scene.

The girl involved did not sustain serious injuries.

"We believe the area would have been busy at this time of day and there may be people who would have filmed the incident or the aftermath on mobile phones.

"We need anyone who has any CCTV, dash cam, or mobile phone footage to come forward.

"If you have any information please call us on 101 quoting incident 562 of 8 December or contact us via our digital 101 system on our website.

"Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."

Local Blackshots ward councillor Joy Redsell says she is appalled by the latest incident and said she will be taking the matter up yet again with the council and the police.

She told Thurrock Nub News: "we have had so much trouble with motorbikes in this area. To be fair the police have been active on this and I think they have already taken and scrapped about 15 bikes but the problem is a big one and we need to do more about it.

"We have asked the police and crime commissioner's office to look at this and see what more can be done in this area to stop this problem. I will be meeting with police and council officers tomorrow (Thursday, 10 December) to see what more can be done about this."
