A MAN was arrested following a disturbance in Stanford-le-Hope during which a police officer was assaulted.

An alarm was raised in the Homsteads area at around 3:30pm yesterday (Sunday, 16 June) following reports of a disturbance.

A considerable number of officers rushed to the area - stirring memories for residents of two recent incidents.

There was a large police presence for an incident in Parry Close on Sunday, 5 May and an unconnected incident on Dunstable Road three days later.

A police statement about yesterday's incident says: "Officers attended and one officer was assaulted, sustaining minor injuries to their arm.

"A 33-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of burglary dwelling, threats to kill and assault against an emergency services worker. He remains in custody.'
