THURROCK Police have gone onto the front foot to protect sites in the borough being operated by National Highways, who are in the first stages of construction of the Lower Thames Crossing.

The Rural Engagement Team and Thurrock Neighbourhood Policing Team have been at the Lower Thames Crossing Project following reports of antisocial behaviour, off‑road quad bike use, wildlife offences, large‑scale fly‑tipping and theft.

A statement from the local force says: "We're working together to keep the area safe, and our plan includes:

  • Using off‑road vehicles to identify and apprehend suspects
  • Deploying drones to monitor large areas
  • Using trail cameras to gather evidence
  • Working with partners to secure prosecutions
  • Carrying out round‑the‑clock patrols with both marked and unmarked vehicles

"We're committed to protecting the site, the environment and the local community."
