ESSEX Police have recognised public concern over the number of HGVs breaking weight limit restrictions in a residential area of Thurrock.

Last week Thurrock Nub News reported in the increasing fear by residents that effective enforcement is not happening.

The force has now responded with a statement to Nub News, which reads: "We are aware of the concerns of the residents in the Thurrock area regarding breaches of the weight limits.

"Road safety matters are a priority for us and we will work with partners to address issues causing residents and other road users concern.

"We continue to maintain a presence on the roads and where there is a clear risk to people's safety or risk of damage to road structures, we will carry out enforcement action, which includes directing vehicles away from the area to the use of a more suitable road, issuing fines and may result in points on a driver's licence.

"We have received several reports from residents and they have been and will continue, to be investigated.

"To maximise the use of our resources, we encourage members of the public to report any breaches or concerns they may to us via this link.

"Anyone who captures dash cam footage of poor and dangerous driving can report this on-line and upload the footage via Extra Eyes here. In an emergency, if there is an immediate safety concern, they should call 999."
