Police say they are stepping up patrols to tackle bike menace in Tilbury
IN the wake of a number of incidents involving young bike riders in Tilbury partaking in anti-social behaviour, Essex Police's local policing team say they have stepped up patrols in the town.
And in a message on social media they have shared the story of an incident in which a stolen moped was recovered.
Police say to Tilbury residents: "After listening to your concerns around antisocial and nuisance behaviour by those on off-road bikes in Tilbury, we have been patrolling the areas where you have told us this is happening.
"While on these patrols, we arrested two boys on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle after officers found a moped, which was suspected to be stolen.
"One boy will face no further action, while the other, aged 15, has been released under investigation as we continue to make enquiries.
"We understand why antisocial & nuisance behaviour causes concern in our communities and we will continue to patrol the area to deter this and hold those responsible accountable for their actions.
"If you have concerns around antisocial behaviour please report it to us on our website."
Last month, following a number of bike-related incidents, local ward councillor Allen Mayes called on local residents to report all the incidents they witnessed to the police.
He said: "No one wants to see anyone hurt, be they rider or residents going about their business, so I would urge every one to report every incident they see or experience to the police on 101 as soon as they can. If you have dash cam, security cam video or pictures of those breaking the law keep it as it will help the police take action later.
"I can fully understand why residents go on to social media to complain about this but cannot stress enough that direct reporting will lead to action to make our streets and open spaces safer, faster."
