THURROCK's leading councillor with responsibility for education has passed on his congratulations o he borough's achieving young people on the day they got their A-level results.

The council reports that, despite challenges posed by the pandemic, Thurrock has seen pupils achieving excellent results this year with looked after children achieving especially well compared to other years.

Cabinet member for children's services Cllr Barry Johnson, said: "I'd like to congratulate our students for their resilience, determination and the results that they have worked so hard to achieve after what has been a very difficult year with COVID-19 disruptions.

"I'd also like to congratulate the schools and all the teachers who have shown great adaptability, working hard to deliver the curriculum and going the extra mile to make sure no student was left behind.

"On behalf of Thurrock Council, I'd like to wish all of our students all the best as they take their next steps towards a brighter future, whether that be going to university, completing an apprenticeship programme or entering the exciting world of employment. Their success following this year is a true testament to their capabilities and resourcefulness."
