STAFF and students at the Hathaway Academy in Grays have been reflecting on this year's GCSE results.

A statement from assistant principal Kevin Dyke says: "Results this year reflect the ongoing hard work, effort and determination of all our Year 11 pupils and staff who despite significant disruption through loss of learning in Years 8 and 9 have produced outcomes to be very proud of.

"Attainment across the core subjects of English and mathematics at grade 7, grade 5 and grade 4 shows that the extra hours put in by pupils and staff throughout the duration of the year was well worth the effort contributing to an academy high percentage of pupils achieving a standard or strong pass in both English and maths.

"Results for pupils in both mathematics, English and achievement of the Basics not only show an improvement on 2022 outcomes but are also higher than pre-pandemic levels in 2019 which reflects the resilience of all involved.

"Further success is evident across the Ebacc suite of subjects including Triple Science, Geography and Spanish for which the targeted hard work to achieve by all involved has resulted in a pleasing number of students passing the full suite of Ebacc subjects and securing an increased Ebacc Average Point Score per student.

"The journey over time to continually improve at subject level and ensure every student meets their potential despite a variety of challenges was most notable in a number of the open subjects such as Statistics, Business Management, Artand Digital I.T. all of which have evidenced real success for the students involved and very positive outcomes.

"There have been many individual student success stories all of which demonstrate the high level of resilience and pride in achievement from the Year 11 Cohort.

"A massive well done to all students and staff for making these results a possibility."
