POLICE are appealing for information and witnesses following an attempted burglary in Chadwell St Mary.

It was reported a vehicle had caused damage to the shop, Peafs on the Heath, in Heath Road, shortly before 3.10am on Sunday (14 January), before unsuccessful attempts were made to enter the premises.

The shop has been closed today but owner Vipul Patel says he hopes to reopen as soon as possible and thanked members of the local community for their messages of sympathy and support today.

A police statement says: "The vehicle left the area. Officers attended to conduct an immediate area search and enquiries at the scene.

"Our investigation into this incident is ongoing.
