RESIDENTS in South Ockendon have celebrated news that their opposition to a planned new 5G mast and associated equipment in the area has been successful.

Earlier this month Thurrock Nub News reported on the application for the mast at the junction of Daiglen Drive and Cawdor Road and opposition it has provoked.

That included the collection of many signatures on a petition, the backing or ward councillors and a number of comments of opposition posted on Thurrock Council's planning portal.

Now council officers have delivered a verdict and the applicants have been told their plan is vetoed.

A decision notice says: "The siting, scale and appearance of the development is considered to be unsympathetic in the local context and inadequately camouflaged and is therefore unacceptable."
