Roads were closed as police investigated incident in Stanford-le-Hope, reported to involve a stabbing

FORENSIC teams are on site in Stanford-le-Hope this evening investigating an incident in which it is reported a young man, in his twenties, was stabbed.

After asking for help locally he apparently drove himself to Basildon Hospital for treatment. At that point a police alarm was raised and the investigation launched.

Police officers arrived in Stanford where a forensic investigation took place within a cordon blocking Rayleigh Road and Valmar Avenue at the point where they meet. The cordon was lifted and roads reopened at 8.30pm.

The incident is believed to have happened in the mid to late afternoon, possibly around 4 to 4.30pm.

Thurrock Nub News understands a man was stabbed in the back at the junction and went into the nearby petrol station, Costcutter and Subway restaurant on London Road where he asked for help.

Thurrock Nub News understand he received some first aid, before heading to the hospital.

Once the alarm was raised police teams responded and threw up a taped perimeter around the site where it was reported the incident took place.

Police put a cordon around the entrance to the Costcutter after leaving the scene on Rayleigh Road.

After leaving the scene on Valmar Avenue, officers attended the nearby garage. A cordon was set up around the shop entrance, and was still in place, with officers on scene at 1pm.

Nearby residents have offered doorbell and CCTV footage to investigating officers.

Police have been asked for a formal comment and updates will follow on the incident and the man's condition.

Later in the evening a second stabbing incident, believed not to be connected, took place in Corringham.
