FOLLOWING last year's surprise Conservative success in Chadwell St Mary when Cllr Adam Carter was elected, there was some concern in Labour's ranks about the outcome of this year's poll in the ward.

However, those fears proved groundless as incumbent Labour councillor Sra Muldowney was returned with a comfortable majority over Conservative Gavin Holland.

In the last result of a busy evening for Thurrock Council's counting staff, Cllr Muldowney was restored to office with a 374 majority.
