School bids again to improve nursery with new building

FRESH plans have been submitted to replace a deteriorating temporary building at an Aveley primary school after funding problems stalled the original scheme.
Kenningtons Primary Academy, in Tamar Drive, wants to replace its temporary nursery unit with a permanent single-storey building offering improved facilities.
The project was originally granted planning permission in 2023, but funding constraints meant work did not begin before the permission expired.
Planning documents describe the existing building as "not fit for purpose".
The proposed replacement would provide additional space, including a larger lobby, kitchen and storage areas, as well as an accessible toilet with a shower.
Plans drawn up by Munday and Cramer Architectural & Building Surveyors Ltd show the building would feature brickwork and render designed to complement the existing school, along with a pitched roof and solar panels.
Although slightly larger than the temporary unit it would replace, the building would remain single-storey.
Documents submitted with the application say neighbouring properties should experience little change in terms of noise, overlooking or loss of light.
Parking arrangements would also remain unchanged because the development would not lead to an increase in pupil or staff numbers.

New planting could be introduced around the outdoor play area, while a low-level fence is proposed to help safeguard children.
The application covers a site measuring about 1,600 square metres. Planning documents state the scheme would not be required to deliver Biodiversity Net Gain, provided no priority habitat is affected.
The latest proposal follows a series of changes at Kenningtons over more than a decade.
Three additional classrooms were approved in 2014, followed by a temporary classroom base in 2016 and changes to the school's front entrance in 2017.
Permission was subsequently granted for a reception extension in 2020 and another classroom in 2023.
