YOUNGSTERS at Corringham Primary School have raised more than £7,000 for Cancer Research.

Children at the school on Herd Lane came out in force to run the Race for Life, where they along with teachers jogged, skipped and walked 5km, sporting cards in memory of loved ones who have battled cancer.

Pupils managed 14 laps of the field, and even the youngest children managed it.

Assistant Headteacher Robert Wade, who is also the school's PE leader, organised the effort and said: "Given that cancer is something that will touch the vast majority of people in so many different ways, we felt at this time while coming out of a global pandemic, that the race for life event would bring the community together in a positive way.

"We have been blown away by the enthusiasm of the children, their parents and the school's staff in generating more than £7,000 (which is over double our initial target) for this worthy cause.

"We now intend to repeat this event each year as we solidify our commitment to pledging a wider impact within the wider community."

All teaching and support staff took part in the event with the children in their year groups and in total more than 390 children took part across the day (within their year group bubbles).
