Second stables under water and animals at risk

RISING waters have promoted concern this evening about the welfare of horses at a second Thurrock stables.

Over recent days Thurrock Nub News has reported several times from White Stables in North Stifford where the Mardyke river has burst its banks and waters have seeped across fields into the stables.

Tonight at Biggin Lane, between Tilbury and Chadwell St Mary, more horses are at risk due to flooding.

The owners of the Tally Ho stables are trying to keep their animals safe after the adjoining menages (riding arenas) and fields became flooded and then the water seeped into stables.

The floods may be affected by the fact that the Thames Barrier was raised this afternoon, effectively blocking the flow of water on the Thames downstream and meaning water tables in Thurrock would be likely to rise.

"We are trying our best to keep our animals safe from the dirty water," said Madison Brickwood from the stables this evening.
