THE deputy leader of Thurrock council has welcomed news that the borough's community theatre is going to remain open for business to at least the end of 2025.

The future of the theatre has been under threat for a couple of years since the previous council administration announced plans to close it as a cost saving measure.

That produced a huge public outcry and the launch of a campaign to save the mnuch-loved threatre - and its adjoining Grays library and Thurrock Museum.

As revealed on Thurrock Nub News last week, the council, now under a Labour administration, appears to be shifting towards handing over the theatre to a community interest company and has sanction 'business as normal'[ during an interim period.

Deputy leader of Thurrock Council and Grays ward councillor, Lynn Worrall said: "We are delighted to be able to continue programming for the Thameside Theatre until the end of 2025.

"The Theatre plays a key role in Thurrock's provision of arts, culture and heritage. Since 1 April this year, the Thameside Theatre has hosted 54 performances and attracted over 10,000 visitors.

"It's fantastic to see that the Thameside will be able help to continue to enrich the lives of our residents, both as audience members and participants.

"This support for the Thameside means Thurrock's residents can access well-priced theatrical entertainment, and our local theatre groups have the opportunity to take to the stage and showcase their talents."
