Ship fire at London Gateway port

NINE teams of firefighters from stations across south Essex were deployed to tackle a blaze on a ship berthed at London Gateway port near Corringham this evening (Thursday, 20 June).

A statement from Essex Fire and Rescue Service says: "We were called at 5.06pm to a fire on a ship at London Gateway.

"Crews from Basildon (two), Corringham, Grays (two, including an Aerial Ladder Platform), Orsett, Rayleigh Weir, Rochford and Southend attended.

"They worked with London Gateway and the crew on the ship, who were uninjured, to extinguish the fire."
