THURROCK'S total of residents who have contracted the coronavirus Cov-19 infection had risen by four to 269.

Nationally there have been 161,145 - a daily increase of four short of 4,000.

21,678 people have died in UK hospitals, an increase of 586 since Monday's figures.

The Office for National Statistics has confirmed that a third of all coronavirus deaths in England and Wales are now happening in care homes.

Nationally there have been a total of 3,096 deaths linked to the virus in care homes since the pandemic began, with projections for the week up to last Friday suggesting the numbers have continued to rise.

There have been no specific figures for care home deaths in Thurrock, though a number are known to have happened in the borough's 32 registered care homes, of which 16 are specifically for older people.
