Soapbox derby? Street carnival? Stanford's own currency? Ideas are mooted for ways to boost town - and residents' thoughts will be welcomed

THE possibility of a new version of Stanford-le-Hope's town centre carnival, a soap-box derby and the creation of the town's own shopping currency are just some of the ideas being considered by its recently reconstituted town forum.

Lockdown has meant that the forum's work was stopped in its tracks after just a couple of meetings in terms of organising events for this year - but its members are using it as thinking time to come up with innovations.

And local residents have been invited to contribute ideas by members of the forum. Join the Facebook page.

Town centre businessman and forum member Blair Lloyd-Warne has come up with the idea of a soapbox derby - while Rob Groves, CEO of Hardie park, has thrown in the idea of creating a local 'currency' which would allow promotional offers to attract more business to the town centre.

If you would like to contribute to the debate, ideas will be welcomed, say forum members.
