IT'S been a big week for the career prospects of young people in Thurrock and today (Friday, 13 February) saw the conclusion of National Apprenticeship Week.

Thurrock Council played its part as hundreds of people of all ages attended a careers fair to explore job, apprenticeship, and training opportunities.

And among the biggest supporters, encouraging young people to be the best they can be, has been the Port of Tilbury.

And, in the wake of the national event, the port has announced that its 2026 Apprenticeship Opportunities are now live.

A statement from the port says: "Our programmes offer the chance to earn while learning, develop real-world skills, and be part of an organisation where our people and communities are at the core of everything we do.

"Opportunities can be shared via the apprenticeship poster using the QR code, or by directing them to our careers page: https://www.forthports.co.uk/careers/vacancies/

"Closing date is 6 March."

Meanwhile hundreds of people of all ages attended a careers fair to explore job, apprenticeship, and training opportunities.

The free event, held on Tuesday (10 February), was delivered in partnership between Thurrock Council and the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) at the Thameside Theatre in Grays.

A range of leading employers were on hand to promote their latest vacancies, including Border Force, the NHS, Marfleet & Bradshaw, and the Royal Opera House.

Cllr Lee Watson, cabinet member for good growth, said: "It's fantastic that the Thameside was able to welcome so many residents and showcase the range of exciting job opportunities available in our borough.

"Thank you to all of the employers and training providers who took part. I'm sure many people left with a better idea of the career paths they could pursue.

"If you weren't able to make it to the fair but would like career support, please do visit one of our Inspire Hubs, where the team can help with everything from CV writing to preparing for job interviews."

Cllr Vikki Hartstean, cabinet member for children's services, education and community Safety, added: "It can feel daunting coming out of school or college and having to decide your next steps.

"Hopefully, the Apprenticeship and Jobs Fair helped to highlight just how many opportunities are available for our young people."
