THERE'S been good news and bad in Purfleet-on- Thames with the return of the sculpted Corgi figures that were stolen after being used in the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebration.

However, vandals have struck again and defaced a silhouette portrait of the Queen which was part of the same display.

The theft of the Corgis was reported on Thurrock Nub News (click here for link) and it seems that the conscience of someone was pricked.

The Corgis in place before being stolen.

The dogs were returned to the Purfleet Heritage Centre anonymously by someone who is reported to have retrieved them from the offenders!

Now it is planned to auction the Corgi figures to offset the cost of the firework display on Jubilee celebration day. Pictures of the event and fireworks https://purfleet-on-thames.org/queens-70th-jubilee/ can be seen by clicking the link.

However, one good turn appears to be followed by a bad one and local folk have condemned the vandals actions in painting over the queen's figure.
