POLICE have confirmed they are probing an incident in Tilbury which resulted in a teenage bike rider being injured in a spectacular crash.

It happened around 1.30pm yesterday (Thursday, 30 June) on Feenan Highway.

Local social media speculation says the injured rider was one of a number of youths who have gained notoriety for off road riding around the town.

A statement from Essex Police says: "We were called at 1.35pm following a report of a single vehicle collision in Tilbury.

"The teenage motorcyclist was taken to hospital for an arm injury.

"Our enquiries continue."

Tilbury councillor John Allen says he is not surprised there has been an accident or injury because of the number of young and inexperienced riders taking to the town's roads and open spaces.

He told Thurrock Nub News: "This was quite a nasty crash but it was inevitable that something like this was going to happen.

"It was only a matter of time before someone was going to get hurt.

"Again, when it comes down to this type of anti social behaviour in our town with regards to motorcycles police are not prioritising this crime and Tilbury has literally become lawless.

"I have no doubt that there be more that get hurt as a result of this wreckless engagement.

"I just pray that there isn't a fatality.

"I call on Essex Police to actually do something about this!"
