EMERGENCY services have dealt with a serious incident on Lodge Lane in Grays today (Wednesday, 12 July) which resulted in three people being taken to hospital following a traffic accident.

The road was closed for several hours while police, fire and ambulance services – including the air ambulance – dealt with the crash, which involved a car striking a large tree.

The crash happened when a car travelling west on Lodge Lane left the road and hit a tree just before the Bradleigh Avenue junction.

A statement from Essex Fire and Rescue Service detailed what happened, saying: "We were called to a road traffic collision in Lodge Lane at 9.53am.

"Crews from Grays and Orsett attended and found a car had crashed into a three.

"One person was trapped and crews used specialist cutting equipment to free them by 10.56am. They were left in the care of the Ambulance Service."

An East of England Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "Three ambulances, two rapid response vehicles and the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance were sent to the scene.

"One patient with a serious leg injury was transported by road to the Royal London Hospital, with medics from the air ambulance also travelling aboard, while two other patients were conveyed to Basildon and Thurrock University Hospital for further assessment and treatment."

Police, who managed the road closure and diversions, which ended around 1pm after the car was recovered, confirmed just one vehicle was involved, adding: "Emergency services including Essex Fire and Rescue were on scene. Three people were taken to hospital with serious injuries."
