By Neil Speight 3rd Sep 2020

BRITISH Transport Police have now confirmed details of last night's incident at Purfleet rail station which caused disruption to services throughout the borough as scheduled were altered.

Officers were called to the station at 6pm last night (Wednesday, 2 September) following a report of a group of men fighting with a knife.

Three men, aged 18 and 19, were arrested on suspicion of affray, possession of an offensive weapon and assault.

All three men were taken to hospital for treatment to non-life threatening injuries.

One has been discharged and released on police bail while enquiries continue.

One man has been discharged from hospital and taken to police custody, and the third man remains in hospital for further treatment.

A statement from the police said: "A knife was recovered from the scene and enquiries into the incident are ongoing."

The incident is the latest of a number around local rail stations. At the weekend a man was injured in a hammer attack outside Stanford-le-Hope rail station.

British Transport Police were conducting an operation yesterday, with increased foot patrolling, as they bid to combat increasing anti-social behaviour.
