COVID-19 infections in Thurrock have jumped by more than a third in three days, the latest available data shows.

There were 101 confirmed positives cases per 100,000 population in the area on Saturday (17 October), compared to 75 on 14 October.

The news comes days after Thurrock Council decided not to ask the Government to move to Tier 2 'High' level restrictions alongside Essex County Council. The county area moved to the higher alert level on Saturday.

The latest figures from Essex County Council also show a steep climb in cases in Basildon, up from 75.3 to 94 per 100,000, in Colchester, which moved from 58 to 70.9 and in Harlow, leaping from 54 to 70.1 per 100,000 people.

Any impact in lowering the rate of infection from Essex's move into Tier 2 would not be expected to fully show for up to two weeks or more. All figures on each district released can be a number of days behind the real picture.
