THURROCK Council has produced a video showing how it will operate services at the Linford Household Waste and Recyling Tip when it reopens on Monday (18 May).

The video features council staff, including Director of Environment Julie Rogers in hi-viz workwear, directing a visitor to the site and shows the spacing guidelines that will be in place.

The council has put no restrictions on who can use the tip and when, but has urged residents to adhere to a series of guidelines before they visit.

These include:

· strict social distancing measures which must be followed on site

· limiting the number of vehicles on site with a maximum of five cars allowed in at a time

· staff directing residents where to park

· only one person leaving their vehicle on site and being permitted on steps or walkways at any one time

· only bringing waste or items that can be unloaded by one person as staff will be unable to assist

· trailers will not be allowed on site initially

Yesterday the council announced that it had changed plans for traffic management around the site that were detailed when it was announced earlier this past week that the tip would reopen.

Initially Buckingham Hill Road was to be closed, but now it will operate as part of a temporary one way system. Details can be found here.

Cllr Aaron Watkins, the council's portfolio for the environment, says: "Please be respectful to our staff who are doing the best job they can while trying to remain safe. The site will only stay open if residents and staff can stay safe, so please be patient and if large queues are forming, please visit the site another day."

As well as reopening the tip, Thurrock council has also increased the frequency with which brown bins used for garden and kitchen waste will be collected. The service had been reduced to a monthly one, but will now be fortnightly. Details here.

Cllr Watkins added: ""Please also ensure that brown bins are used for their designated purpose and are not contaminated with items such as hardcore and concrete."
