JUST two new cases were added today (Friday, 15 May) to the roll call of Thurrock residents who have been infected with coronavirus.

In total there have now been 307 confirmed cases in the borough, which has a population of 172,525.

The death toll in the borough, when last announced, is 105.

Nationally there are more than 236,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UK and almost 34,000 people have lost their lives, government figures show.

However, the total number of deaths relating to coronavirus is thought to be higher, with Office for National Statistics (ONS) data suggesting there had already been more than 36,000 such deaths by the beginning of May.

The number of new daily confirmed cases has been falling since a peak in April, despite an increase in the number of people being tested.

Thurrock Council normally issues a daily bulletin about coronavirus-related issues in the borough but has not done so today. There has been no explanation why not. Update At 0.15am Saturday, a bulletin dated 15 May was issued.

However, you can catch up with all the latest issues in the borough via its website here.
