Thurrock's Labour leader says her administration has righted wrongs of the past and council is in a good place

AFTER two years in office, Thurrock's Labour group has claimed its efforts have restored accountability, improved services and restored trust.
In a statement that barely reflects public perception of Labour's efforts in Thurrock, where it is expected the party will fare badly in May's local elections, Labour group and council leader Cllr Lynn Worrall put on an upbeat front at the council cabinet meeting.
She was speaking as she delivered the authority's Quarter 3 Corporate Performance Report, saying it set out clear progress in improving services and restoring accountability under the Labour administration.
The report suggests the Council is delivering against its Corporate and Improvement Plan, with a strong focus on Labour priorities rebuilding trust, strengthening public services, and delivering real outcomes for residents after years of failure.
Cllr Worrall, said: "This report shows the real progress we are making under Labour leadership to turn this council around. We are restoring transparency, grip, and accountability making sure residents can see both where we are succeeding and where we need to go further.
"Unlike the past, we are not hiding from challenges. We are confronting them head-on whether that's improving public health, increasing recycling, or driving up performance across all our services."
The report outlines improvements across a wide range of services, alongside a more robust and honest approach to performance management identifying issues early and taking action to address them.
Cllr Worrall added: "We are determined to deliver the high-quality services our residents deserve. There is more to do, but this report shows we are firmly on the right track driven by Labour values of fairness, responsibility and delivery."
