Tributes to bomber hero Jim on 100th birthday

THURROCK resident Jim Gooding was surrounded by family and friends today (Saturday, 6 September) as he celebrated his 100th birthday.

Former Lancaster bomber rear gunner Jim Gooding, who flew missions in the Second World War, was guest of honour at a celebration event at the RAF Association club on Southend Road in Grays.

Jim, who was recently granted the Freedom of Thurrock, has served as president of the club for many years and has been honoured for his contribution to veterans' welfare.

Representatives of the RAF and the RAF Association attended today's event and presented further accolades.
