Veronique on the marathon trail again - this time literally on her own doorstop - as she pays tribute to much-loved and missed Kerry and boosts the work of St Luke's Hospice
A THURROCK fundraiser has added to the list of good causes she has supported this year by running a marathon without even leaving her own home.
Corringham teacher Veronique Surry-Kaise was featured on Thurrock Nub News in June when she completed a D-I-Y triathlon to raise funds for NHS charities.
And she was back out and running with friends in October when they completed a virtual London marathon around the streets of East Thurrock for a number of charities.
And to mark Christmas and the approach of the end of a remarkable year Veronique decided to complete another marathon - but just by running around her home and garden!
This time the beneficiary was St Luke's Hospice in memory of brave and popular Thurrock mum Kerry Woodbury whose online blog as she fought cancer before passing away in September proved so inspirational for many. You can read Kerry's story here.
Veronique, who can normally run a marathon in around four hours, took five and a half hours and said: "It was like a super-long never-ending bleep test and very tough mentally!
"I run a marathon around the 4h benchmark but all the stops and starts when turning made it really slow. I ran thinking about all of you who have been shielding for months this year and those up in the sky including Kerry.
"Thank you so much for all those who have donated, especially in these hard times."
