A CONCERNED borough resident has stepped up her call for a response from Thurrock Council after her tiny pet dog had to have its leg amputated.

And she has provided evidence from a vet which she says shows that a worker in her home was responsible for the injury.

Police have also confirmed they are investigating the issue, which was first reported last week by Thurrock NubNews.

Emma Wingrave of Gordon Road, Horndon on the Hill, has told how Thurrock Council has been upgrading the bathroom and kitchen at her home but the work, being carried out by United Living under contract to the council, has been long and arduous.

A workman is also accused of leaving cigarette butts all over the garden, raiding the family kitchens for tea, coffee, milk biscuits etc without asking.

On top of a number of complaints about the behaviour of workers and the quality of work Emma says the most serious incident appears to be that her pet was stepped on by a worker.

A report by veterinary surgeon Olushola Idowu, seen by Thurrock NubNews, confirms the extent of the injuries to the dog, called Oakley and concludes: "The fact that all four bones along the foot were fractured indicated to me in my professional opinion that the foot has been exposed to immense pressure on it at one time, consistent with someone stepping on the dog's foot.

"Without amputation the dog would have continued to suffer and the fractures would most definitely have worsened."

Essex Police have confirmed they are investigating the incident. However, Thurrock Council have declined to give any comment on what happened or what action they might be taking.
