AFTER what's been an incredibly difficult year, the villagers of Orsett have been assured that their community will be in bloom again for 2021.
The village's Orsett in Bloom group have expressed their thanks to a number of supporters whose generosity has ensured that volunteers will be able to keep the village looking at its best.
2,800 winter bedding plans have been planted this month so there should still be plenty of colour about in the new year.
In a report to villagers the group says: "Just a few words to let you know how Orsett in Bloom are doing during this difficult year.
"So far most of our work has been able to continue as we started the year with a reasonable bank balance. Our funding for the maintenance of both war memorials, village bedding schemes and barrel planters has continued.
"We have decided that whatever the future holds, we are determined that the war memorials will take priority. Thanks to our members and supporters who helped plant 2,800 winter bedding plants this month.
"Most of our fund-raising activities have been shelved, resulting in an estimated loss of income of £3,800. We have, however, published a calendar for 2021 and hope you will purchase a few to help us out. The calendar is available for sale at the Orsett Village Stores for £5 or you can order directly via email to [email protected]
"We have had good fortune in that, quite unsolicited, generous donations totalling £1,375.00 have been made to help us continue our work. These came from two anonymous donors, plus the The Pickwick Club and 20 of the Lodges that use Orsett Masonic Hall.
"We have also received two pledges totalling £600. Our grateful thanks to Jackie Firmin and Richard Bowyer for facilitating these generous donations and all the Pickwick and Lodge members for their generosity.
"Finally, we would like to thank Helen Bradwell (Smith's Orchard Garden Centre) for donating 300 daffodil bulbs, which we will plant around The Pound.
"We wish you all a safe and healthy Christmas and hopefully we can all get blooming together again next year."
