PINK-clad walkers threaded their way through the streets and byways of Thurrock today (Sunday, 6 July) in their latest fundraising effort for a cancer charity created in memory of a toddler who passed away a month before her fourth birthday.

In the wake of Indee Rose's death, and as a tribute to her daughter, mum Jane and others created the Indee Rose Trust to support children who have been diagnosed with brain and spinal cancers.

Jane says: "In the moment, it felt like our world had stopped spinning. Ours hearts shattered. But her light never dimmed. In every corner of our lives, Indee's spirit continues to shine.

"She is the heartbeat of the Indee Rose Trust, created in her name to support other children facing brain and spinal cancers. Every smile we create, every moment of happiness shared is because of Indee.

Jane gives Thurrock folk a wave as she walked through Stanford this morning.

"Indee may no longer be in ours arms, but she is with us in every smile, every beam of sunlight and in every step we take forward to help others.

"She is our inspiration. Our purpose. Her legacy will live on - one happy memory at a time."

As the group of walkers passed through Thurrock today en-rout to Canvey Island, Jane spoke to Nub News about the event – and thanked all the charity's supporters.

Among those who are taking part in the walking challenge, which stretches over several days, having started on the south coast, is Laura Fromling who says: "The reason I am taking part in this challenge is because I want to create smiles and happy Memories for brave children diagnosed with brain and spinal cancers."

Laura has a fundraising page and those who would like to support the charity – and its new special project, can do so via this link.

Many children have been helped - and continue to be supported - by the Indee Rose Trust

As well as raising awareness of the charity, the walk will also raise funds for a new Trust initiative.

Earlier this year the Trust became proud owners of a run down 1920's building which originally was a pub called 'The Seahorse', which in its prime it was a very popular pub.

However, the pub on Coast Drive, Greatstone, became one more casualty of the declining pub market and closed.

Walkers set out from the former Seahorse pub.

But it will spring back to life as a short-stay holiday haven for children and their families.

The Trust says: "This beautiful time worn building does need a lot of help, but needs even more imagination. But behind every crack and every squeaky floorboard lies a dream: to transform the original Seahorse into a magical retreat for children going through treatment from brain and spinal cancers.

"Indee's Wish House will be a short-stay holiday haven - a place where young warriors and their families can press pause on the hospital visits and treatments. A place where they can laugh, play and make unforgettable memories together by the sea.

The Seahourse is set for a new lease of life.

"We envision bright, whimsical rooms full of character, cozy nooks, storytelling and joyful spaces that echo with giggles instead of worry."

Anyone wanting to support the conversion directly, can do so by visiting the Trust's information and fundraising page via this link.
