PLANS being considered to introduce speed calming measures on a busy road outside a Stanford-le-Hope secondary school have been welcomed by Stanford-le-Hope West councillors Terry Piccolo and Shane Hebb.

As Thurrock Nub News first reported last week Thurrock Council are proposing to install speed cushions along Butts Lane and London Road, Stanford-le-Hope, as part of funding provided by the government.

The government grant for temporary speed limiting was issued to Thurrock Council, but the councillors hope that – if successful in the views of residents – there will be a case for a more permanent solution.

"We have had many sessions with Highways officers about the speeding of motor vehicles down Butts Lane, going into the lane", said Cllr Piccolo.

"We know that there were even more issues when the large one-way system was in place as part of the final traffic light works at Buckingham Hill Road, and when the Household Waste & Recycling Centre re-opened with a large demand.

"We are pleased that Thurrock Council remembered the meetings and are considering using part of the funding to help reduce vehicle speeds down Butts Lane and London Road".

The councillors have also been working with residents in the Stanford Park area to combat speeding vehicles which are dangerous to school children and pedestrians, and also cause noise nuisance for residents who live in the area.

Cllr Hebb said: "We are really thankful to the government for this grant, and to Thurrock Council for putting this area on the list for much-needed help with reducing speeding cars. Speeding vehicles have become an increasing issue for local residents, especially with the schools being back, and this could be really helpful in helping to deal with that local issue."
