Work to repair weather-hit main road into Grays

EMERGENCY structural repairs have been undertaken on a main access road into Grays.

Large cracks and subsidence had appeared over several on the town-bound carriageway on Hogg Lane, prompting some concern among motorists and residents that a possible sink hole might appear.

A couple of years ago, at a nearby point on the road an underground tunnel linking former quarries on either side of the road, collapsed, leaving a major hole in the carriageway but council engineers say this latest fault is weather connected.

A statement from the council said: "Emergency structural repairs are being undertaken to the edge of the carriageway on Hogg Lane, Grays.

"These works have been necessary due to the recent heavy rainfall that has been experienced, and are not connected to a previous sinkhole."
