Back in December, the borough-based Concrete Cutting compnay held a festive art competition with a creative construction twist for primary school children in Grays.

Key Stage One children (aged 5–7) were asked to colour in an outline picture of a 'Robotic Demolition Machine,' and Key Stage 2 children (7-11) were asked to create their own idea of what a 'Robotic Demolition Machine' should look like.

Both sets of children were also asked to come up with fun and memorable names for their creations, with the winning names to be printed onto stickers and attached to real machines.

The competition, which offered Lego and construction-related goodies as the grand prize, was a resounding hit, with an incredible 292 submissions being received.

In the end, only two winners could be chosen, and after much deliberation, Sophie, aged seven, who created "George Power Bot", and Chima, aged 11, who designed "The Scorpix", were chosen as the worthy champions.

The Easter half term presented the perfect opportunity to invite Sophie, Chima, and their parents, to visit the John F Hunt Concrete Cutting team and see George Power Bot and The Scorpix brought to life!

The day began with a tour of the facilities and a look at some of the smaller concrete cutting tools, with the much-anticipated highlight being a rare up-close look at the Brokk 180 and Brokk 330 robotic demolition machines that proudly display their new names.

The visit ended on a high with a demonstration of the mighty 'George Power Bot' and 'The Scorpix', from one of the skilled operatives who also showed Sophie and Chima the controls and different attachments whilst answering questions on the construction industry as a career option for the inspired future concrete cutters.

Concrete Cutting, which is part of the The John F Hunt group, will be sharing updates on George Power Bot and The Scorpix's travels on their LinkedIn page as they set off to work on projects around the UK, so follow their page to stay updated.
