THURROCK Council's ruling cabinet is to be asked to approve the purchase of additional land adjacent to Stanford-le-Hope railway station - which they are told is 'within the current budget envelope.'

The station demolition and abortive rebuild has been a botched operation that has left the council open to much local criticism but councillors will be told the new options would "considerably reduce the risks the scheme is currently carrying".

ESSEX Fire and Rescue Service has revealed 15 of its firefighters were taken to hospital after treating the hazardous chemical spill at West Thurrock.

Deputy Chief Fire Officer Rick Hylton said: "This has been a complicated incident and with a multi-agency approach with Essex Police, East of England Ambulance Service, Public Health England, Thurrock Council and the Environment Agency to manage the incident.

HEALTH and safety experts have advised there is no longer any danger to health following yesterday' incident at Industrial Chemicals Ltd's West Thurrock site.

In the wake of a leak at the site hazardous gas floated from the scene, causing a warning to residents to close their doors and windows and as a precaution several schools closed today (Tuesday, 7 January).
