Plans for Tech reunion

PLANS are being made for a reunion of former students of the Aveley and Grays Technical High School.

It will take place at the re-union to be held at the Old Regent Ballroom, 19 Corringham Road, Stanford-le-Hope on 24 October.

EMERGENCY services continue to work together at the scene of a chemical incident in West Thurrock.

Essex County Fire and Rescue Service is supporting the management team at Industrial Chemicals Ltd supplying a large quantity of water to the chemical which will dilute the product. It is expected that this will suppress the cloud.

SCHOOLS in West Thurrock, Purfleet and Chafford Hundred are expected to remain closed today (Tuesday 7 January) as a precaution to prevent pupils from being exposed to fumes coming from a chemical spill in the area.

Harris Academy Chafford Hundred and Belmont Castle Primary are among those closed.

THURROCK Council could introduce a new licensing scheme that would see landlords paying fees of up to £800 to let a single property.

The scheme which will be considered over the next 12 months would require landlords to pay hundreds of pounds to purchase a license for each property they rent out within a designated area.

DESPITE a belief that a leak that led to today's (Monday, 6 January) gas cloud escape from an industrial site in West Thurrock has been contained, fire officers have reiterated a warning to local residents to keep all windows and doors closed.

Speaking from the site at Stoness Road in West Thurrock this evening area manager at Essex County Fire and Rescue Service Neil Fenwick said: "We understand that the cloud includes an amount of hydrochloloric acid.

St Clere's head Mrs Ashlie Hughes

THE headteacher of St Clere's School in Stanford-le-Hope has contacted concerned parents and local residents to correct a report in the Thurrock Gazette newspaper which said the school would be taking on an additional 500 pupils.

Head Ashlie Hughes was responding to a report in the latest edition of the paper to alleviate concerns as parents contacted the school.
