Belsize Park 38, Thurrock 17[.L]

THURROCK struggled with the windy, exposed conditions as they slumped to defeat in London's most central ground.

Belsize Park is one of the world's oldest clubs, having been a founder member of the Rugby Union 1871.

With a large playing base, they have attracted some top players over the years including former England winger, David Trick.

They have a reputation for exotic tours, but Thurrock's trip to the Park was far from memorable!

From the kick off the Oakfielders were on the back foot as half-backs, George Humphrey and Jake Cotter dictated proceedings! After a scrum infringement, the home side kicked deep into Thurrock territory before driving over the line. This became the template for the game as Belsize gained a stranglehold on the game. A poor kick chase left a yawning gap for Cotter to accelerate through before linking up with Will Fairbank to increase the lead. Every bounce and "rub of the green" went the way of Belsize, even a multitude of dog-walkers descending on to the pitch to halt a rare Thurrock attack! An injury to Kye Holloway didn't help the cause, but it was good to see the potential of Northern debutant James Rodger. The game was all but over before Thurrock staged their customary period of defiance. There was a splendid counter-attack featuring Dan Ulph and Dritan Loka. Ed Stevens darted over for a fine solo effort while Frank Wright and Ulph capitalised on a couple of forward carries. All in all it was a disappointing day out at the Zoo as Thurrock's away form continued to prove inconsistent. This weekend Thurrock entertain Chingford at Oakfield. Kick off is at 2.30pm.
