THERE was disappointment for the two borough Isthmian North sides in action on Tuesday night.

Table-topping Tilbury travelled to Maldon & Tiptree and quickly found themselves behind as Shomari Barnwell gave the Jammers - who have have been paired at home to Football League side Morecambe in the first round of the FA Cup - a seventh minute lead after breaking through and producing an accomplished finish.

The home side included new signing Joe Turpin, 23, against his former club at the heart of their defence and Turpin, who had appeared six times for the Dockers this season, was celebrating again seven minutes later when Aaron William-Bushell grabbed Maldon's second after being set up by Barnwell.

An own goal from Martyn Stokes' wicked deflection on 25 minutes put Dockers back in it but just three minutes later Scott Kemp restored Maldon's two goal cushion when he headed home Alfie Mason's cross and that's how it finished.

With their unbeaten start to the season intact after an exciting and fiercely competitive game that had plenty more chances at either end Maldon now sit in second place, two points behind Tilbury but with two matches in hand.

Aveley were also on the road at Coggeshall and made a great start, creating early chances but they found home keeper Jake Jessup in fine form.

And, as often happens, after failing to take advantage they found themselves behind on 33 minutes after conceding a penalty which Joseph Claridge converted.

Aveley had keeper David Hughes to thanks for a couple of fine saves but were on top for much of the rest of the match but were unable to find the equalising goal which their performance merited.

Tonight (Wednesday, 28 October) Grays Athletic are at home to Great Wakering Rovers.
