Supermarine 5, Thurrock T-Birds 35

AN in-form Thurrock T-Birds side made the long journey to Swindon to face Championship new girls Supermarine today (Sunday, 24 November), chasing chasing the bonus point victory to apply pressure at the top of the table.

It took less than a minute for captain India Harvey to break through and set up Leah Dixon for the opening score.

Sadly what at first looked like it was going to be a cricket score for the T-Birds was spoiled by some stop start questionable refereeing.

Thurrock dug deep & defended extremely well for long periods of time. When opportunities were presented to attack T-Birds flicked a switch and showed some of the flair which showed why they are the reigning champions. This resulted in the T-Birds earning a well-deserved bonus point win.

Coach Andy Yarrow said: "The girls are performing well at the moment, despite the stop start nature of the game the girls managed to focus and get the bonus point win. I think with our title rivals failing to earn bonus points it just goes to show how important these points could prove come the end of the season, as the top three are all now only separated by three points.

"We made a number of big tackles in a strong defensive display and the set piece continues to improve game by game.

"I'd also like to congratulate vice captain Francesca Jordan for making her Engalnd Fire Service debut this week at Exeter Chiefs picking up the player of the match award in a fantastic performance."

Thurrock T-Birds are next at home in league action against Trojans in a special charity game on Sunday 8 December. The T-Birds are playing some extraordinary rugby as of late, get yourself down to Oakfield dressed in pink to support the girls as they continue building momentum. All money raised including entry fee will be donated to Little Havens Hospice.

Try scorers today were Lizell Heather (2), Leah Dixon, Ellie Lawther and India Harvey.

Lizell Heather converted five out of five conversions.
