SUPPORTERS and players from Thurrock Rugby Club and their visitors and neighbours Brentwood paid tribute to club stalwart Jeff Selway at this afternoon's derby match at Oakfield.

Mr Selway, a legendary figure at the Thurrock club and a much-loved and admired teacher who numbers thousands of borough people among those he taught, died in the past week.

At today's match players and supporters held a minute's applause in tribute not just to his contribution to rugby, but to Thurrock as a whole.

And a hard-fought match ended with delight for the home side, who eked out a treasured 22-20 London One North victory against their derby rivals.
