FOLLOWING last week's ceremony to official rename Purfleet as 'on-Thames' Thurock Nub News history writer Susan yates reflects on the town's long past.

The next time you travel through Thurrock on the A1013(old A13) stop at the junction of Orsett Heath and Baker St.Walk up to the road bridge to the elevated position and look west.You will marvel at the magnificent sight of the new developments which are effectively forming a "Sports Hub" at the heart of Thurrock.

THE impact of the coronavirus pandemic has brought all competitive sport to a halt.

It would seem likely that doom and gloom would prevail in these traumatic times, but not so. The reality is certainly that tough times are here, and they will remain for some time to come.

I ATTENDED the industrial fire in West Thurrock this morning to report on the incident which drew seven fire crews and caused a warning to residents to close their windows.

Thank you for your insightful and investigative article entitled: 'One in five Thurrock workers gets less than real living wage - including key coronavirus frontline staff!' I read it with a deep sense of anger.

Please note that I am expressing anger, and not shock - I wish I was shocked. The reason that I am not shocked is because, for too many years, we have seen an erosion in both the pay and status of jobs that are now deemed - rightly! - to be critical to the running of our country.
