MANY tributes have been paid to a much-loved former Thurrock councillor who died recently.

June Brown was well known in Tilbury for her work with many local organisations and her service on the council.

At Wednesday's full meeting of the council members stood in silence for a minute to mark her passing on 14 February and several paid tribute to her.

Annie O'Brien, manager of the Tilbury Riverside Project knew and worked alongside June for many years.

She told Nub News: "June was a kind, intelligent woman who was passionate about Tilbury and its community.

"She had been a member of the Tilbury

Riverside Project from the very start in 1992. She was the secretary of the project for more than 20 years. She also wore various hats for other causes for Tilbury town and was always happy to help out at all

the various events that the project had or worked on.

"June was unable to attend the committee meetings in the past couple of years of her life due to her health. But she always wanted to know what was happening and was still a Trustee of the project.

"She was a wonderful member of the Tilbury Riverside Project and the Tilbury community.

"If you knew June you will miss her very much."

Labour group leader onThurrock Council, Cllr John Kent, said: "I was really sad to hear of the passing of June Brown. June was absolutely honest and straightforward and Tilbury to the core. Our thoughts are with her family at this time."

Council leader Cllr Rob Gledhill also spoke warmly of Mrs Brown and recalled that when he first joined the authority she was someone always available with help, advice and encouragement.

Mrs Brown's funeral will take place at noon on Wednesday, 9 March in St John's Church, Tilbury.
