VISITORS to Blackshots today (Sunday, 25 May) were able to get a taste of a gentile sporting activity - though they also witnessed some tense competition.
Thurrock Bowls Club which has its HQ and club bar at the rinks adjacent to the Civic Hall, played host for an open day to show beginners what the sport is all about.
While on the next square, top class county players were engaged in a competition, with plenty of closely-contested action.
Check out what it was all about with Nub News, who visited and caught up with club stalwart Phil Johns.
