Local youngsters' big day at Lords

By Nub News Reporter 1st Jun 2026

PUPILS from Arthur Bugler Primary School in Stanford-le-Hope recently experienced the opportunity of a lifetime, swapping the school playground for the historic turf of Lord's Cricket Ground.

The school was selected to participate in a national Schools Cricket World Cup tournament hosted by the prominent sports charity, Chance to Shine.

The special event brought together more than 400 children from across the country to celebrate the ICC Women's T20 World Cup.

Dressed in vibrant team colours, the pupils took part in a series of cricket skills sessions in the morning, before putting their teamwork, resilience, and leadership to the test during an action-packed afternoon tournament.

Lee Heard, teacher at Arthur Bugler Primary and who was responsible for the event said: 'Our school was incredibly lucky to have been invited as one of only 12 schools across the country to take part in the Chance to Shine schools day at Lord's to celebrate the launch of the Women's T20 World Cup.

"This was made possible by our amazing Chance to Shine community coach Kirby Jennings who worked with our Year 5 and 6 pupils in PE last term.

"A big thank you to all the children who represented the school so very well and also to the staff and parents who supported this event to make it such a success.'
