Tilbury 1, Maldon & Tiptree 1
A CROWD of 387 watched Dockers conclude their Isthmian North season with a draw at Chadfields.
Tilbury made a couple of changes to the starting 11 from the bank holiday El Chavico, with Ben Nightingale and Alfie Terry replacing the absent Tom Middlehurst and the concussed Alfie Fry.
Macauley Joynes also started, which meant he featured in every match this season.
Maldon & Tiptree took the lead after just 16 minutes when they delivered a corner deep into the Tilbury area. Dockers failed to clear, and the ball fell kindly to Kai Brown, who emphatically fired home from close range.
But Tilbury responded 12 minutes later when Joynes' free kick was flapped at by Elliot Justham, who handed Jordan Clark one of the easiest goals of his career as he scored in the empty net.
In the 36th minute, the hosts came close to flipping the game on its head and taking the lead.
The chance started from the back as Jack Hayes made an incredible challenge to take the ball off of familiar face Chris Millar. The ball made its way out wide to Harrison Day, who looked for Dan Trendall inside, but Amir Mohammad headed away.
The fast-paced match continued as The Jammers were quickly up the other end as Amine Sassi led a swift counterattack. Sassi ran through one-on-one, but Nightingale was out quick to make the block and smother before a rebound.
In the 41st minute, Nightingale made another good stop as Brown chopped onto his right foot and drilled a low strike goalward, but the keeper got down well to make the stop.
On the stroke of half-time, Maldon put the ball in the net for the second time when Amine Sassi skipped past a challenge on the left-hand side of the box before delivering a low cross toBennett, who poked home at the near post. However, he fouled the keeper in the process, and the goal was disallowed.
Despite the end-to-end excitement of the first half, there was not much to report back home to in the second half as the game ended in a stalemate.
A better playing surface might have made for an exciting game as both sides tried to get the ball down and play but in the end there was nothing to separate the two sides. 1, Maldon & Tiptree 1
