Aveley 1, AFC Fylde 0
AVELEY have knocked out National League side AFC Fylde in the FA Trophy fourth round. Underdogs Aveley win in front of their home fans at Parkside and progress to the round of 16.
Millers will receive £5,250 for winning the tie.
Aveley were the dominant side for large spells of the game. After some great chances that were not taken, Millers took the lead in the 44th minute through Nana Kyei.
A long throw into the box was flicked on by Jalen Jones to Kyei who fired goalward.
It was a slow start to the second half, but after 68 minutes Aveley had the ball in the net again. A speculative decision from the officials as Garrett Kelly's goal is wiped out.
Kelly scored and Manny Ogunrinde was fouled in the box. However, the referee disagreed and awarded a foul to Fylde.
Millers held on for an unlikely victory and move a step closer to Wembley!
Aveley have a quick turnaround as they play Dagenham & Redbridge at Parkside in the BBC Essex Senior Cup fourth round on Monday evening (15 January). Dagenham are in mixed-league form and sit 17th in the Vanarama National League.
