AFTER the indignity of a 7-2 thrashing in the Isthmian North at Waltham Abbey at the weekend, Tilbury showed a bit of character to bounce back quickly and they made no mistake in ensuing progress in the BBC Essex Senior Cup with an emphatic win at Essex Senior league Saffron Walden on Tuesday evening (26 November).

The fourth round win was notable for a hat-trick of mistakes leading attributed to Town's keeper - and also a debut performance from the bench of Tilbury U16s player Jake Weston late in the game.

It took just four minutes for Dockers to open the scoring, when Alex Hernandez was given the opportunity to shoot by the home stopper. His shot was blocked but Lindell Stewart reacted to net the rebound.

On 23 minutes another keeper error under pressure from Dan Trendall saw the ball break for Kieran Jones who found the top corner for a two goal lead that Dockers took into the interval.

Five minutes after the restart Jones grabbed his second to effectively put the match beyond the underdog hosts.

That was confirmed on 65 minutes when Hernandez hit a free kick that smashed against the bar and then went over the line off the hapless keeper's back.

His disappointing night was completed in the last minute when he had to pick the ball out of the net again following good work by Jones who did brilliantly to win the ball back and feed Hernandez, who in turn set up Sam Bantick who found the far corner.

Dockers return to action in the Isthmian North on Saturday when they will take part in the first match at Cambridge City's new Westway ground.

Supporters are reminded the historic match is all ticket.
