Tilbury Town 2, Witham Town 1

TILBURY moved to second place in the Isthmian North with Tuesday evening's (15 October) Essex derby win against fellow promotion-challengers Witham, Dockers' 250th win in the division.

And they did it the hard way, coming from a goal behind thanks to Sam Bantick's tenth goal of the season and Alex Hernandez's sixth in six matches since joining the Dockers.

The visitors made a decent start and on ten minutes Tilbury had keeper David Hughes to thank for a good save to deny Joshua Osude, who found space to get a challenging shot off.

Hughes' arrival on loan, at the same time as Hernandez, has also co-incided with a six match unbeaten run that now includes five wins.

However, on 37 minutes Hughes was picking the ball out of the net after his challenge on Osunde, who had beaten him to the ball, was adjudged worthy of a penalty, which Osude converted to give Witham the half time lead.

Alex Hernandex heads home from close range for the equaliser.

Tilbury emerged for the second stanza in good heart and put plenty of pressure on the visitors, resulting in winning a corner on the hour which Macauley Joynes delivered and Hernandez rose to head home from close range.

Dockers then pressed forward for a winner and spurnned a couple of chances before the points were sealed with just seven minutes left when Bantick came in from the right, having missed a similar chance moments before, but this time he picked his spot and fired past keeper Harry Fairs to send the majority of the crowd of 231 into raptures.

The visitors pressed through more than six minutes of added time for an equaliser but Dockers were not to be denied and now they sit two points behind leaders Bury Town, though the Suffolk side do have a game in hand.

Dockers are next in action on Saturday (19 October) when they travel to mid-table Mildenhall.
